Pizza Night in New York City

I love New York! I’m here in the Big Apple visiting my kids & excited about the US Open. It starts tomorrow, & we are going! Although I’m excited about the Open, hurricane Isaac is churning and headed towards our house in Florida. Hmmm, NOT so exciting. The “cone of uncertainty” is still questionable, but we’re hoping to be on the west side of it all. A few days will tell. In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy my family and the US Open.
David & I had a great walk yesterday & stopped at a nice little organic farmers market at Lincoln Square. We bought some of the most aromatic basil ever, some luscious grape tomatoes, some very expensive garlic (but most things are expensive here). Add to the shopping list some fresh mozzarella, yes, I know, not vegan, but every now & then what the heck. David already had some garlic infused pizza dough from Trader Joe’s. I LOVE Trader Joe’s!! We stopped at the Fairway for our final ingredients to make our (almost) homemade pizza.
We head back to Dot, the name Xander gave to our sprawling (300 sq foot) apartment to make the pizza.
We assemble the ingredients and set the dough out to warm to room temperature. With no rolling pin, David brilliantly gets a wine bottle and proceeds to roll. Very clever I thought! The oven is preheated to 425 and on goes the tomato purée, basil leaves, halved cherry tomatoes, garlic chunks (David will NEVER be bothered from vampires) mozzarella and a sprinkling of oregano. Into the oven for about 12-15 minutes. We poured a glass of wine from the rolling pin and had a wonderful pizza together while watching David’s favorite tv shows. A better evening I can’t imagine.
Now, I’ve been asked to cut his hair. Music to a Mom’s ears. As I said, I love (being in) New York!
